Invercaimbe Camp Site
Invercaimbe · Arisaig · Inverness-shire
We are a small family run caravan site with 18 mixed pitches situated close to the village of Arisaig and overlooking the Hebridean Islands of Eigg, Rum and Skye. There is a sandy beach and sheltered sea inlet on two sides providing a safe paddling, swimming and boating environment.
The site is free-draining sandy soil and has level firm standing suitable for motorhomes and caravans alike. There are also six levelled hard standing pitches with a grass area for awnings. Awnings going directly on the grass must have a breathable ground sheet. All pitches have electric hook up and they are 16 amp. We no longer accept tents over 4 man size due to the exposed location.
Facilities: Consist of 4 toilets, 2 showers, a laundry & dishwashing room. There are 16 electric hook up points - these require booking during busy periods. Facilities are basic but are kept clean. Hot water and showers are free. Showers are instant electric. Television reception is good and Vodafone, Orange and O2 all work well here. We have a wi- fi hotspot provided by Highland WiFi.
There is a small shop on the site at reception selling postcards, cards, calendars as well as Highland beef , eggs , and seasonal veg [all from the croft]. Milk, Cream of Galloway ice cream and home made tablet are also available here. Pitch prices from £8 for a tent with no vehicle and two occupants to £20 for a caravan and electric, high season.
Location: A West Highland working croft holiday destination where I breed native Luing cattle and Highland Ponies and keep highland bullocks for beef, on a beach front location overlooking the Small Isles with sheltered moorings for small boats. Invercaimbe is one and a half miles from the nearest Hotel , shops and facilities in the village of Arisaig, an ideal touring base for visiting the Highlands, Skye, Ardnamurachan and the Small Isles. Locally there are lots of opportunities for walking, cycling as well as fishing. A folder of local walks is available in the laundry room. Kayak hire is available in Arisaig and the safe sheltered inlet is ideal for this. We are a great touring base for visiting the Highlands, Skye, Ardnamurachan and the Small Isles. There is a golf course at Traigh only 2 miles away. We are 8 miles from Mallaig.
How to find us: We are located just about 1.5 miles north of Arisaig on the old coastal road to Mallaig at the start of the famous white sandy beaches that are more often associated with the 'White Sands of Morar' but start here at Bunacaimbe, which is an old crofting township.
Wildlife It is possible to fish on the Caimbe Burn (small river) which flows through the croft and there are a wide variety of wildlife, flora and fauna to be seen, including many types of wader at low tide and inshore sea birds when the tide is full. These include Mergansers and Eider ducks, the waders include Redshank ,Golden Plover and Curlew. The croft land also provides a breeding ground for Skylark Lapwing Wheatear and Twite. Otters breed higher up the Caimbe and have been known to bring their young down to feed in September in full view of the caravan site. Whales and Dolphins are in residence not far offshore in the Sound of Arisaig and locally run boat trips are available to see them and of course to see the seals which can even be seen on rocks on the shore very close to the Caimbe.
