Outdoor Activities at Snowgoose Mountain Centre
and
Accommodation at The Smiddy Bunkhouse & Snowgoose Apartments
Corpach - Fort William

Our family-run alpine-style accommodation and outdoor activity centre offer a base from which to simply relax and unwind - to go and do your own thing. Whether this be taking on the abundant, varied outdoor adventure challenges which are close at hand with friends, family or a group - or by taking advantage of our outdoor skills training courses. We are open all year.

We are at the extreme southwestern end of the Caledonian Canal overlooking the headwaters of Loch Linnhe. The area is dotted with small islands, with the West Highland Railway line to Mallaig running alongside.

Location
The location of Snowgoose Mountain Centre offers some of the best views of Ben Nevis, the Mamor Ridges and Aonach Mor ski area - we are in a unique situation at the start of the Road to the Isles via Glenfinnan and the 'Rough Bounds' to Arisaig, then on to Mallaig (47 miles). An inspirational start can be made by starting from our own doorstep along The Great Glen - 77 miles by road north-east to Inverness. The Caledonian Canal itself is a historical west-to-east water route for canoes, sailboats and cruisers. The Great Glen Mountain Bike Trail can be started here to make a true coast to coast (lighthouse to lighthouse) west-to-east cycle trail. And the same applies to the Great Glen Way walking route.

For those looking for independent adventure challenges and thrills in the outdoors:

  • Paddlesports and Sailing enthusiasts are well catered for with the best of Scottish white water rivers, large expanses of inland lochs, tidal sheltered inland loch water either at our doorstep or very close by.
  • Amble, ramble, scramble or dangle on nearby rocky crags, Munros and ridges, extensive high mountain, moor and hill areas - as well as endless forest and glen walks - along with Scotland's premier winter climbing locations.
  • Mountain Biking & Cycling are more than well catered for - including the hot spots of the Witches Tail at Aonach Mor. The first part of the Great Glen Cycle route follows the easy path alongside the Caledonian Canal. There are more remote, off-road options such as from Fassfern through to Glen Loy or vice versa. Or cycle / walk the length of Loch Arkaig through to Loch Nevis via Glen Dessary.
  • Wildlife, geology and glacial landscapes are here in abundance if you care to take a little time. Our 'allegedly' high rainfall, forests and mountain landscape make certain nearby locations rich in rare species of lichens, mountain alpine plants, as well as unusual species of insects, birds and mammals - all well suited to our local environment.
