The Area
|
The area offers artists and photographers many varied and unique subjects and settings. There are numerous tracks and established paths for walkers of all abilities throughout the surrounding countryside and seashore. It is only a 10 minute walk to Prince's Beach where the remains of a vitrified fort can be found. |
A 50 minute walk will take you to the hill top where the view is truly magnificent, taking in mountain, loch and sea. The panorama here extends north to the Isle of Skye and the Cuillin mountains, west to the Small Isles of Eigg, Muck and Rum, south to Ardnamurchan Point (the most westerly point of the British mainland), and east to the Roshven range of mountains, and on a clear day, Ben Nevis (Britain's highest mountain).
Red deer frequent the adjoining fields and bordering woods. Seals are a common sight along the seashore. Less frequent visitors include foxes, badgers, otters, pine martens and eagles.
There are daily sailings to the Small Isles of Eigg and Muck from Arisaig (3 miles), with frequent sightings of whales, porpoises and dolphins during these trips. From Mallaig (11 miles), a vehicle ferry runs frequently to the Isle of Skye and there are daily passenger sailings to the Small Isles of Rum and Canna, as well as the Knoydart Peninsula.
The ferry to Mull & Iona is only a 2 hour drive through beautiful scenery around Loch Moidart and Sunart and over the Morven range.
For golf enthusiasts, arguably the most scenic 9-hole course in Britain can be found at Traigh, only 5 miles from Leven House.
The house is easily accessible by road (just off the main A830 road, 3 miles east of Arisaig) and rail (1 mile from Beasdale railway station - turn immediately right after the red telephone box).
